Lab Technician

Job Purpose:Â The Laboratory Technician I serves in our QC and R&D laboratories and conducts routine laboratory testing on raw materials and finished products following established test methods and standard operating procedures. Â He or she may perform other laboratory testing or analysis as directed by and under the supervision of the Laboratory Operations Manager, or other senior technical staff. A high level of communication and time-management skills are required.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Understands, complies with, and promotes safe laboratory and work practices, including appropriate safety regulations and procedures.
- Operates laboratory equipment, pilot plants, and instrumentation in accordance with standard test methods and operating procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to manage multiple instruments and workflows simultaneously to maximize efficiency.
- Works safely with hydrocarbon and/or water-based products and potentially hazardous chemicals in a controlled laboratory setting.
- Maintains and documents laboratory records and results in compliance with quality management system and laboratory procedures.
- Maintains a clean and safe laboratory environment.
- Assists with instrument maintenance, calibration, and referencing as needed.
- Communicates test results to blending and manufacturing staff and calculates batch correction when appropriate and in consultation with the Lead Chemist.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in training and education opportunities as available.
- Understands and maintains compliance with standards, regulations and required disclosures.
Requirements
Required qualifications:Â
- 0-3 years of experience in an industrial laboratory or college course work in chemistry (with lab) or related science.
- Must have proficiency with basic arithmetic, algebra, fractions, and proportions.
- Must have proficiency with basic computing and productivity tools.
- Must be physically able to work standing in the laboratory, sitting in an office setting, and in a manufacturing environment as necessary.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Education/Certification/etc required:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- BS/BA in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related science preferred.
- Experience with analytical instruments related to lubricant product testing is preferred
