Harrison County Arts, Inc. (HCA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located at 113 E Beaver St. in the heart of Corydon, Indiana. Our facilities include a special exhibitions gallery, a member’s gallery, and a classroom, all dedicated to promoting the artist community of Harrison County, Indiana, and beyond. The Gallery Manager reports directly to the Board President and is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations to enhance the reputation of Harrison County Arts and its galleries.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for fine art.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic environment.
    Competency with Microsoft products, such as the ability to maintain spreadsheet databases and execute mail merges.
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written.

Nice to have, but not necessary—although a willingness to learn is essential:

  • Retail experience.
  • Knowledge of Square for inventory and point of sale.
  • Experience with grant writing, reporting, or other forms of fundraising.
  • An undergraduate degree or prior work experience in fine arts.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Keep the Board of Directors updated on financial and operational matters.
  • Implement the directives and decisions of the Board President.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with regional educational institutions, community, and civic organizations.
  • Supervise and support volunteer staff.
  • Develop and execute effective marketing strategies to promote art exhibits and events in the form of postcard mailings, emails, and social media posts.
  • Maintain a database of donors and donations, including writing thank you notes for donations.
  • Engage in fundraising and grant writing activities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Typical Activities:

  • Managing Volunteers (25%):
    • Help staff the gallery with volunteers and fill in as needed.
    • Monitor and support the various committees of HCA, ensuring their efforts are aligned with organizational goals.
  • Logistics (25%):
    • Ensure the proper installation of artworks in the exhibition space.
    • Arrange for the transport and storage of artworks.
    • Communicate with artists about the drop-off and pick-up of their work.
    • Manage inventory effectively.
  • Sales (20%):
    • Promote the gallery and its exhibits.
    • Oversee the sales process in the gallery.
    • Participate in planning for exhibits, classes, and events, including maintaining a calendar of events.
    • Research grant opportunities and other ways to promote the gallery.
  • PR and Communication (15%):
    • Provide information and assistance to visitors.
    • Interact with patrons, artists, and the Harrison County community.
    • Update the gallery’s website and social media accounts.
    • Serve as an ambassador and the face of the organization to the community.
    • Work closely with committees to implement marketing and fundraising campaigns.
  • Events (15%):
    • Coordinate events, including:
    • Booking a caterer.
    • Arranging furniture.
    • Organizing additional volunteers if needed.
    • Ticket sales.

Expectations:

  • Be on-site for 20–25 hours per week.
  • Occasional evenings for exhibition receptions and events, often with more than a month’s notice.
  • Pay: $20/hour. No additional benefits are offered for this position.
