The mission of Harrison County Lifelong Learning is to provide access to a wide range of education and training opportunities for the adult residents of the Harrison County, Indiana area.

Harrison County Lifelong Learning partners with several educational institutions and community resources to increase the skills and abilities of local citizens while empowering and enriching their lives in an effort to promote a lifetime of learning.

GED Testing Administered by Lifelong Learning

Harrison County Lifelong Learning is now the GED Test Site for Region 10. The learning center will provide Official GED testing to Harrison, Crawford, Clark, Floyd, Washington and Scott Counties each month. Pre-registration is required for all tests and the cost of initial testing is $70.00. The cost for retesting is $20.00. The first quarter 2012 Test Schedule is now available! Please call the learning center for registration deadlines.

Adult Education Orientation Scheduled

Harrison County Lifelong Learning will be conducting an Orientation session for students who wish to enroll in Adult Education classes on Wednesday, February 29. The 90-minute sessions will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Orientation will inform students of the program requirements and explain the partnership between Adult Education and the Department of Workforce Development. In addition, students will begin the Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) to assess their skill level. Adult Education is available to adults over age 18 with or without a high school diploma. For students younger than 18, an official exit form must be provided to begin class. For more information, or to register for an Orientation session, please call the learning center!

2012 Computer Education Classes

Harrison County Lifelong Learning coordinates Computer Education classes for students interested in improving their computer knowledge. Each course allows students to explore various features of the software, provides hands-on practical lessons and are taught by experienced teachers. The first quarter classes include Computer Basics, Email Essentials, Introduction to Word and Effective PowerPoint Presentations. Here is the complete Winter 2012 schedule.

 

College Classes Close to Home

Each semester Harrison County Lifelong Learning offers Ivy Tech Community College classes via 2-way video technology. Distance education classes allow students to interact live with their instructor and fellow students without the travel expenses related to on-campus classes. For the Spring 2012 sememster, Lifelong Learning is hosting: Essentials of Algebra (MAT 023), Fundamentals of Algebra (MAT 015), Concepts in Mathematics (MAT 118), Introduction to Human Services (HUM 101) and Ivy Tech's First Year Seminar (IVY 101).

 

Harrison County Community Foundation Awards Lifelong Learning!

The Harrison County Community Foundation recently awarded Harrison County Lifelong Learning for two education initiatives. The first grant received approval in late 2010 and is designed to help Lifelong Learning administer GED/Adult Basic Education classes to the inmates at the Harrison County Justice Center. The awarded funds will help reduce recidivism and give inmates a chance at a straighter path in life. The second grant award is for technology upgrades in the computer lab. Updated workstations, new software and a server will greatly enhance the programming at Lifelong Learning.
