CNA Training

In partnership with Kindred Healthcare, Harrison County Lifelong Learning offers a CNA Training Program to prepare individuals for a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Indiana.
Prospective students are contaced by Lifelong Learning and required to complete the admission process, including a pre-screening test, an entrance interview with the instructor and an enrollment agreement. Kindred Healthcare then administers the required instruction and coordinates state testing. Each CNA class is scheduled based on instructor availability through Kindred Healthcare and classes are taught at Harrison Health and Rehabilitation in Corydon.
What is a Certified Nursing Assistant?
A Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) performs basic client needs under the supervision and direction of a registered nurse or licensed nurse practitioner. Employment is found in hospitals, long-term care facilities, and home health care environments. A general pay scale for a CNA is between $8-$14 per hour.
A CNA's work activities include:

Being part of a cooperative nursing team and reading chart notes

Observing and reporting patients' vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration and temperature

Assisting patients with eating, walking, bathing, dressing and elimination

Observing and reporting patients' food intake and liquid output

Transporting clients by gurney or wheelchair

Cleaning patients' rooms and changing bed linens
What are the requirements needed to become a CNA?
In order to become a CNA in the State of Indiana, a student must,

Complete 30 hours of classroom instruction

Complete 75 hours of clinical practicum

Receive 2 Mantoux Tuberculin (TB) Tests or chest X-ray, if applicable

Receive a physical exam
-
Consent to a limited criminal history check through the Indiana State Police

Successfully complete a written competency and procedure evaluation exam administered by the Indiana State Department of Health
Through the CNA Training Program, students will learn the procedures and develop the attitude necessary to provide quality care to patients. In addition, they will learn medical terminology, the aging process, resident rights, safety and first aide measures and basic restorative services.
The CNA Training Program is offered for $450.00 and takes approximately 4 weeks to complete. The program fee includes the cost of the TB tests, physical exam, program materials and the state exam. Students must furnish a $7.00 money order for the limited criminal history check to Harrison County Lifelong Learning at the time of admissions.
